We would like to welcome you to the Royals (Prince William Lacrosse Club). We are an organization dedicated to growing the sport of lacrosse for the youth residing within the geographic boundaries of Prince William County. We are a member organization and participate in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL) in both girls and boys divisions in the spring league.

Heading into its 30th anniversary PWLC is providing parents and athletes access to affordable, developmental, and competitive team play, with growth opportunities for all players regardless of age or ability. Throughout the past 3 decades players, coaches and Commissioners have come and gone. The one constant is we are a “club of the community.”  Our membership is comprised of families and professionals from within Prince William County who will carry the club into the next 30 years.

The purpose of PWLC is to provide Prince William County youth an opportunity to learn and enjoy the sport of lacrosse in an atmosphere of exemplary sportsmanship and integrity.  The girls cohorts participate by grade: K/2, 3/4, 5/6, and 7/8; and Boys participate by age: U9, U11, U13, and U15. The NVYLL follows the US Lacrosse and USA High School Lacrosse Rules with a few exceptions.

NVYLL has established a high school pyramid for club participation.  To participate in PWLC, our members must be zoned for the following high schools:

  • Colgan, Forest Park, Gar-Field, Hylton, Potomac, Woodbridge, Freedom, Osbourn, Osbourn Park, Patriot, Brentsville, and Manassas Park.

If you are zoned to a different High School please contact a club representative before signing up for any PWLC programs to confirm eligibility.

The Club has begun to experience some unprecedented growth. There are many opportunities available for you to assist, so that we can continue the ability to offer the sport of lacrosse to all girls and boys interested in playing. We look forward to watching your daughters and sons experience the game of lacrosse, while learning the importance of sportsmanship and teamwork.

You do not need to have any lacrosse experience to participate in our program. We can offer our help, while you learn the sport. If you have any questions at all regarding these opportunities, please contact us by e-mail or phone at any time.

PWLC founded in 1989
  • The Prince William Lacrosse Club was originally founded by Robert Wickham as the Lake Ridge Boys Lacrosse Club.

The club was established by a group of fathers whose son's showed an interest in lacrosse. Started as an all boys indoor winter club competing at South Run Park in Springfield, the club also began to compete in the Northern Virginia Youth Lacrosse League (NVYLL).

    1989
  • Due to the growth of the club beyond Lake Ridge, and the inclusion of girls teams, the club was re-named to the Prince William Youth Lacrosse League (PWYL) in 1997.

In 1997, under the leadership of Bill Clark, the club added a boys B1/2 team, and the County's first ever all girls team - a G5/6 team. Initially only 9 girls signed up but, eventually the club had 31 players register -all were taken. The time honored PWLC motto; "Turn no player away" was born.

  • In 2003, Western/Eastern divisions had grown so big, the decision was made to form two separate clubs in PWC based on geographic locations.

PWYL members John Wright, Candy Verrilli, Steph Houck and Bill Clark were instrumental in collaborating with and assisting Father Jeff Oakes of Manassas, in establishing our sister club. For the 2004 season the PWYL Western Division became Manassas Battlefield Youth Lacrosse (MBYL) then eventually "Brigade" which is known today as The Gainesville Youth Lacrosse Club. MBYL practiced at the PWC Fair Grounds, Bennet Elementary and Manassas Baptist Church.

    2009
  • This was a period of significant growth in the club with an influx of new coaches on both boys and girls side. Rosa Parks Elementary became the club's home field, and many hours were spent by club members mowing and lining the fields for play.

Under first year Commissioner, Rich Creagh, PWLC formally established an identity by taking the name "Royals" as the club's name, and adopted the signature Royal's Crown Logo.

    2008
  • In 2014, under the leadership of Rich Creagh, the club drafted and adopted the first recorded Bylaws. These bylaws formally established the club's purpose and provided a framework for governance.

    2014
  • In 2017, under the leadership of Mark Huber, the club made vast improvements to the internal management procedures of the club. A formal and deliberate budget process was established which greatly improved the services provided to our members. Internal management and business rules were established by codifying the club's Standard Operating Procedures to guide current and future coaches and BOD. Finally the club further solidified it's identity through creating a Purpose and Vision Statement to guide its members.
